Wrapping Up My First Internship

When I found out that I had gotten my very first internship I was over the moon with excitement. I had the chance to work at this amazing company and had the opportunity to learn so many new skills. Following my excitement, I became very worried because I realized that I was going into this new environment with no experience, and I was very scared that I wouldn't know what to do or I would make a mistake.

On my first day I was pretty nervous, but my fears quickly dissolved once I actually started working because I got to meet people and realized everyone (and I mean literally every single person I have met) is so nice! Knowing that everyone at Arcurve is supportive really helped me become comfortable with asking a lot of questions. Asking those questions has helped me learn the process that goes into making decisions which has made me a better decision maker too!

Even though the main office is located in Calgary, I have been working remotely from Vancouver and I was a little worried that I would not be able to be part of the company culture but that wasn’t the case at all. I got to meet different people and participate in virtual events where we would play games and get to know other Arcurvians. I even got to visit the office while I was in Calgary and having the chance to meet everyone in person and see the wonderful space was such a great experience!

Since I’m a Talent Acquisition Intern, I’ve gotten to learn all about the world of recruiting. I started with responsibilities like scheduling interviews, sorting applications, and reviewing resumes but then I started to do more tasks such as posting jobs and doing interviews. I have even gotten to work on additional projects such as a corporate social responsibility project which has given me the chance to learn new skills, work with different people, and most importantly the opportunity to give back to the community!

I knew that I wanted to pursue something HR related for my career, but I didn’t think it was going to be recruitment. After experiencing what working in talent acquisition is like, I realized that I really enjoy it a lot and want to work in the field! Learning about different topics in school is very useful but actually doing the work has taught me so many things that I never would have been able to learn.

In the end, it's important to not let fears prevent you from seeking out opportunities or trying new things because you never know what you may have missed out on. If you want to check out new internship opportunities at Arcurve, check out our careers page here: https://www.arcurve.com/careers
